Our bodies are made of various types of matter, all matter is energy, and all energy is a form of resonance or vibration. Like a musical instrument, through use or neglect, our bodies can fall out of tune creating a state of stress and disease. Sound healing is a powerful tool that enables us to detach from thought, resistance and re-connect us to our true, authentic self.
The tonal vibrations of our instruments stimulate the brain and the parasympathetic nervous system to help induce a Theta state. A place of tranquility altered consciousness and expansion of the mind. By simply listening with intention to these pure, vibrant tones and frequencies one may find peace, joy, inner-awareness and rejuvenation. This can also release energy no longer serving them, such as fear, anxiety, trauma, negative emotions and patterns.
Sound healing can be traced back too many ancient cultures. It has origins in Greece, India, Tibet, Aboriginal Australia, Latin America, Africa and China. In these cultures, sound was used for ceremonies and as a way to heal physical, mental, and emotional ailments. The ancients understood what modern science is now beginning to discover, that everything is in a state of vibration.
The sound from various healing instruments during a session influences our brain wave frequencies and can help bring the brain to a relaxed Theta state within minutes.
Theta is our gateway to learning, memory, and intuition. Our senses are withdrawn from the external world and focused on signals originating from within. Hence it is very common during a sound healing session to experience subconscious movements of the body. Sound waves penetrate deep into the body's tissues and have the ability to promote healing and regeneration at the cellular level.
Sound healing has a basis in both neurology and psychology. It has been proven in neurological studies that listening to music makes us more productive and creative. It can relieve stress and improve our moods. This is because listening to music floods our brains with dopamine -the happy chemical. It also releases oxytocin, a natural painkiller and hormone that allows us to bond with and trust people.
Sound therapy has been known to help treat general physical ailments including headaches, stiff neck, joint pain, tension, digestive disorder, low back pain and more. Additionally, it can be used to help with psychological and behavioral disorders including autism, depression, learning disabilities, and developmental troubles.
